The Broadcasting Careers video teaches students about careers in all levels of broadcasting – on and off camera.
Viewers find out how they can have a career as an announcer, producer or writer for a television or radio station. The video begins by interviewing a panel of broadcasting students. They discuss a wide range of topics including - how they became involved in broadcasting at a young age, why they chose a career in broadcasting and what classes are required for such careers.
The video takes viewers on a guided tour through a working television station, where they are able to meet broadcasting professionals and experience what they do on a daily basis. Several behind the scenes jobs are highlighted including - camera operator, lighting director, sound director and many others. Viewers learn the differences in televised and radio broadcasting through a tour of a local radio station.
The final portion of the video is set up in an interview format with careered professionals in the broadcasting field. Callers are able to ask the specialists questions dealing with broadcasting. The panel stresses the importance of learning many aspects of the broadcasting field, not just focusing on one area of interest. Salaries and working hours are discussed as well. Students are told to be prepared to begin in a low paying job, but they are encouraged by opportunity for advancement. Students learn the importance of networking and meeting as many people as they can.
The video gives a broad view of all areas of broadcasting; it stresses a need for a true love for the field in order to succeed.
