Dewey D Life Skills Curriculum intrigues children with interesting facts and discoveries that are sure to keep their attention. He not only is able to get these important character development messages across he is also able to shed light on the importance of science and history. Dewey D uses these subjects in discusions of conflict resolution, self-esteem and good decision-making.

The package contains three videos. In Dewey D’s Formula for Good Decision Making three children learn how to make good decisions by following a pattern that can be used for any problem. Kids learn the importance of thinking things through instead of acting on impulse. They learn that every decision, big or small, affects their lives, so they should take their time and make the decision that is right for them.

In Dewey D’s Lessons in Self-esteem children learn to accept themselves for who they are and to embrace all they have to offer. Dewey D shows kids how to not only give out complements to others but to also accept them when they receive them. These important lessons are taught with an underlying impression of the importance of literature and history as well. Kids learn that they should think positively about all aspects of their lives so they are able to succeed in everything they do.

The final video in this package is Dewey D’s Forecast for Conflict Resolution. In this film two boys learn to work out their problems by talking things out instead of resorting to violence. They learn to identify the problem, discuss it and come up with a clear and rational solution. Weather is used an analogy to the stormy feelings that come up if problems go unsolved. Middle school students learn to deal with issues immediately so they do not become large problems later on.

The information presented in the Dewey D videos is reinforced with activities described in the curriculum guide and an exciting Sticky Situations Card Game. These activities lead to further discussions on important life skills.
