Parents learn to speak with their children about violence, to recognize the warning signs of potentially violent students, and how to help keep their children's schools safe. They are instructed to get involved with the schools and their community to combat the issue before it becomes a problem. Some warning signs are described so parents are able to quickly identify if a child has a problem. They include severe depression, low self-esteem, and obsession with violence and weapons, irresponsibility, cruelty to animals, behavior changes and threats. Parents are instructed to encourage children to speak up if they hear or see anything that could lead to violence.
