MegaSkills: Upper Elementary
Video

Moving beyond the basics with Upper Elementary Students brings to surface new MegaSkills education challenges for the faculty, staff, students and parents. Children during this time are becoming increasingly more independent and are looking for ways to individuate from their parents, making MegaSkills an imperative part of their everyday life. In this video teachers are introduced to activities and ideas to encourage the 'strong learner' and their parents to get involved in education.
Such topics discussed include: How can we help children maintain positive attitudes about school? How can we help children gain a stronger sense of self-discipline? How can we help children stick with and complete assignments? How can we make sure that children do their homework? How can we help children become problem solvers? How can we help children limit TV time and computer games and manage their time wisely? How can we help children resist negative peer pressure? How do we get children to read more? How do we build parent involvement? How do we whet students' appetites for learning?
Teachers discuss these and other topic in a question and answer format with Dr. Dorothy Rich. They are also highlighted in the Free Instructor's Manual along with suggestions for further discussion topics for teachers and administrators.
