The Extreme Drugs: Crack, Heroin and Methamphetamine Package explains these drugs notorious nature for their highly addictive and destructive in nature.
In addition to the ravaging physical and mental effects of these substances, each has additional social and health risks that make them destructive to society. The videos will help teens and adult recognize the signs of use, and offer steps for helping someone who is abusing one of these drugs. Crack: An Update is a video describing up-to-date information on crack, the affects it has on a user, withdrawal symptoms and how it can affect a pregnancy. The short video simply touches upon all aspects of the horribly addictive drug.
In Meth: Under the Ice, students study how meth is made. The narrator discusses what happens to a person’s body even after just one use. The direct fact approach of the video leads teens in the right direction. They are even given ways and reasons to say no.
The final video in this package, Heroin: The Real Deal, deals with possibly the worst drug, Heroin. Students are able to relate to the video by hearing stories of their heroes overdosing, such as the lead singer and guitarist from a band called Sublime. Other stories of regular high school kids who tried heroin one time and died are told through their parents to show students it could happen to them.
Leader's guides are provided to facilitate discussions after your presentation. The pamphlets are a great take-home supplement to the presentation, so the audience will have the facts at hand. Each pamphlet deals with a topic introduced in the videos. In addition to the three pamphlets on crack , heroin, and methamphetamine, a fourth refusal skills pamphlet is included. By using the E.S.P. (Examine, Select, Plan) method, teens learn how to refuse offers of drugs or engagement in other criminal activity.
