Young Lucy receives a mysterious note from the "Hot Spots" warning her that her house is in danger from fire. She calls her friend Red the Firedog, who is "ruff and ready" to help her uncover the clues that will prevent fires in her home.

Kids follow Red and Lucy from room to room in a house to learn the areas that contain high fire risks. From the bedroom, to the bathroom, to the kitchen, the animated "hot spot" characters teach students how to prevent a fire and solve the mystery.
